Dear Parents and Carers,

It was a pleasure to welcome parents and carers to our Ambassadors and Special Awards Assembly on Monday morning - being able to award these badges is such a privilege for the leadership team. A special ‘well done’ to all the recipients of these awards.

We thank you for your understanding and support following the Industrial Action which took place on Wednesday. Hopefully, the links you were provided with were helpful in supporting your children, however we fully understand if you were not able to facilitate this at home.

We were delighted to welcome parents and carers of Year 2 to the SATs meeting this morning and hope that the option to drop off siblings earlier made things a little easier for you all. If you were unable to attend the meeting and have any questionsregarding the SATs process, please do contact your child's teacher directly.

Thank you to parents and carers of KS2 children for attending the Times Tables Workshop this morning which coincides with NSPCC Number Day. We hope you found the workshop and chance to see times tables teaching in the classroom practical, informative and useful. If you do have any questions regarding the teaching of maths and times tables, please contact your child’s class teacher. Thank you to Mrs Buchanan, Maths Lead, for running this informative workshop for the school today.

Today we also celebrated Number Day and took part in Dress for Digits. It was brilliant to see so many fun outfits across the school! Thank you to everyone for taking part in Number Day and supporting the NSPCC. To find out more about this amazing charity, please visit their website at: https://www.nspcc.org.uk/.

Thank you to the volunteers who have come forward to help us with Careers and Aspirations Day on 6th March. Mrs Helps will be in contact with you all next week. In order to provide an enriching and well balanced day, we are still looking for some volunteers who do practical jobs such as bricklaying, plumbing, carpentry or even a chef or a butcher! If you would like to be involved, please contact Mrs Helps at
s.helps@bigginhillps.com.

I also wrote to families on Tuesday morning regarding PRIME drinks. Please be aware that one of the types of PRIME drinks is an energy drink and contains 200mg of caffeine. This drink is banned in school and is not suitable for children. I would just like to reiterate that only water is allowed in classrooms and children can fill up their water bottle at various points during the school day. Children are allowed to bring in squash or flavoured water in their lunchbox and this is for lunchtime only.
Parent Consultations will take place on Thursday 9th February from 3.30-6.50pm and also from 8.30-10.50am on Friday 10th February. This is with the exception of Ms Reed’s class (Royal Mile) whose consultation appointments will be on Wednesday 8th February 3.30pm - 5.30pm, 5.30pm - 6.50pm on Thursday 9th February and 8.30-10.50am on Friday 10th February.

All appointments will need to be booked via Arbor in the normal way. The booking system is open until Wednesday 8th February at 12.00pm. If you have any queries or problems with booking, please do call our office team. We ask that when you book your appointment you leave 30 minutes between appointments for siblings. Appointments will be at 10 minute intervals this year but please remember to build in some time to look at your child’s books before or after your appointment as these will be available for you to look at.

We very much hope that you will be able to make parent consultations. If you cannot make these dates, please speak to your child’s class teacher to arrange an alternative appointment. So that we can work effectively in partnership with you, it is an
expectation that an appointment is made to see your child’s class teacher this term.
Please also remember that it is an inset day next Friday (10th February) and school is closed to children. Children are very welcome to attend parent consultations, however must be supervised by parents and carers at all times.

Have a wonderful weekend.

My very best wishes,

Mrs Freeman

Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead
