Y6 Fred Class

This year in English, we will be reading high-quality texts including The Man Who Walked Between the Towers; The Promise; The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse; Grimm Tales; Suffragette - The Battle for Equality and more!

In Guided Reading this year, we will be following Destination Reader. We will be engaging in daily, structured sessions to support the children to read with greater understanding, enjoyment and purpose. We will be developing a variety of reading skills, such as predicting, summarising, inferring, clarifying and making connections.

In Maths, we will be learning to use all four operations to solve a variety of multi-step problems; finding the percentage of a number; completing calculations with all operations with fractions; learning to find the missing angles in quadrilaterals and triagnles and convert units.

Topics this year include: 

• What would a journey through your body look like?

• How were the Maya an advanced civilisation?

• Were the Vikings pushed or pulled from Scandinavia?

• Will you ever see the water you drink again?

• What can we learn about evolution and inheritance?

Highlights of the year will include the Year 6 Fun Day after the KS2 SATs, the Year 6 Performace and a residential to Devon! We also arrange different Buzz Days and school trips connected to our learning.
