Year 6 - Viking Buzz Day

Posted: Sat 5th Dec 2015

Last week, Year 6 travelled back over 1100 years to experience life in a Viking settlement when they welcomed History Off the Page to host their latest buzz day.  During the morning, children were able to experience a number of jobs through role play; such as, making amulets, candle dipping, clay work and stitching.  Dubious remedies were concocted to cure any villager feigning illness; whilst others were trained for battle in preparation for attack by neighbouring Anglo-Saxons.

In the afternoon, children took part in an archaeological investigation.  Using 'dig boxes' children were encouraged to develop their investigative skills to describe and identify Viking artefacts.  This experience gave children an insight into the day of an archaeologist, which was used to stimulate some fantastic writing the next day. All the children enjoyed the day, and would like to join staff in thanking all the parents who helped during the day.
