Dear Parents and Carers,
It was a pleasure for Mr Devlin to welcome parents and carers to the Year 3 London Bridge class assembly this morning. It was wonderful to find out more about their Victorian Day - the poem recitation was wonderful! Thank you to parents and carers for coming.
This afternoon we celebrated the Coronation in school. It has been wonderful to see a sea of Union Jack colours across the entire school today in celebration of the Coronation and also a few crowns! Children also enjoyed eating in a ‘Street Party’ themed lunch hall with balloons, streamers, bunting and music! We also enjoyed gate music in the morning and again this afternoon.
Classes have also enjoyed contributing to a whole school Coronation Art Display and also made a card for The King, which we will be posting off on Wednesday morning. Finally, each class held a party in their year groups with a few party games to finish the afternoon celebrations off!
I would like to thank the Friends of BHPS for sourcing the decorations for the school today as well as providing each child with a commemorative bookmark as a special keepsake of the day. Bookmarks along with a letter about our celebrations in school will have come home with children today. Please note, the Friends of BHPS have ordered just enough bookmarks for one per child. These can not be replaced if they are lost or misplaced.
Earlier in the week Miss Elliott, History Lead, also held a whole school (R-Y6) assembly about the Coronation so children have an understanding of this historic event.
Today is another example of how the Friends of BHPS work to support the school. I would like to thank Mrs Helps and Mrs Clark for organising the day, Miss Elliott for delivering our school ‘The Coronation' assembly and the Friends of BHPS for supporting our initiatives, funding the decorations and providing a bookmark for each child.
On Tuesday, Mrs Snelling and the School Council completed the building of our Eco Bins. We were delighted to be joined by Dilo from Tatsfield Compost Site. I would like to thank Dilo for helping us deliver this initiative and project for the school. Thank you also to the Eco-Club, Mrs Snelling, Mrs Blackburn and Mrs Mew for doing this for the school.
Next week, our Year 6 children will be taking their SATs. Year 6 parents and carers, please refer to the letter dated 25th April for the schedule. If you have any questions, please direct these to Miss O’Mahony or Miss Wigfield as soon as possible. We will be providing a Year 6 SATs breakfast in our Year 6 area from 8am each morning next week and we encourage our Year 6 children to take advantage of this. This is a very nice way to start each day, which helps to ensure that children are relaxed and have had time to chat with their friends before the SATs.
I would just like to remind families that due to the Coronation, we have a long weekend with an additional bank holiday on Monday, 8th May and school will be closed.
Finally, on behalf of the leadership team and staff at the school, I would like to wish our Year 6 children the very best of luck with their SATs next week.
We wish all our families a wonderful bank holiday weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday 9th May.
My very best wishes,
Mrs Freeman
