Dear Parents and Carers,

What a year!

As the academic year draws to a close, it is only correct for us to take a moment to stop and reflect on the year that this has been! This year has presented many challenges and the way in which the children have conducted themselves has been exemplary. They have shown incredible resilience and positivity and I commend them all. It's fair to say that it has not been easy, but myself and the entire staff team here are immensely proud of each and every one of your fabulous children!

Today we say goodbye to year 6 - we are so very proud of them all and are very excited for the next chapter of their learning journey. With every year 6 departure, we welcome our new pre-school and reception children and families to our wonderful BHPS family - this is always a very exciting time for us all. We are looking forward to getting to know all the new families who will be joining us in September.

This week has been very much about transition, children have spent time with their new teacher and in their new classrooms. This provides the children with an opportunity to get to know their new teacher and surroundings and helps them to feel more relaxed about what lies ahead. Children across the school also enjoyed a whole school socially distanced picnic on the field, as well as an ice-pop which was very kindly donated by Mr and Mrs Allen.

This week, we have also enjoyed our fabulous year 6 production, nursery graduation and finally today, our year 6 graduation. Although our last week of term arrangements have been slightly scaled down, we have tried as hard as possible to recognise and mark the end of this unique academic year as much as is feasibly possible and hope that families have enjoyed these events.

A change in September will be that our nursery will be called Biggin Hill Pre-School; this name more accurately reflects the service that is provided. As you are all aware, Mr Devlin will become our Assistant Headteacher and support both Mrs Lawrence and I in the strategic leadership of the school. Joining us from the start of the next academic year will be Miss Knott, SENCo Assistant. Miss Knott will support our inclusion team and Mrs Lawrence with our SEND strategy across the school. Mrs Sargeant will lead on wellbeing and mental health across the entire school and pre-school. Mrs Helps will lead on marketing and communications. We are also delighted to announce that Miss Curran, who has been volunteering with us since April, will be joining us as our new LSA. Miss Curran will be working in our newly named, Biggin Hill Pre-School. We have also made some changes to subject leadership within school.

Please look out for a letter in mid-august with our arrangements for the return to school, we are hopeful that we will see a return to normality - and are very much looking forward to this!

For me, the last six months as the new headteacher of BHPS have been truly amazing and I cannot wait for us to be back together properly in September. I could not do any of what I do without the support of our parents and carers - you have all been incredible! The staff team here have been fantastic during the last year and on behalf of the governors, Mrs Lawrence and myself, I would like to thank them all for everything they have done for the children this year.

On Monday, as a staff team we were all delighted to receive a beautiful home made afternoon tea from the Friends of BHPS as a token of their appreciation for all that we do - what a lovely gesture! Thank you very much.

On behalf of the entire staff team, I would like to thank you for your beautiful cards and gifts - your messages, gifts and kindness to us all means a great deal - thank you!

Finally, whatever your plans, have a wonderful and well deserved summer break, stay safe and keep well.

See everyone on Wednesday 1st September.

My very best wishes,

Mrs Freeman

Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead
